Thursday, December 25, 2008Merry xmas 2008Celebrating Christmas is a wonderful affair for me. All that food and snacks, plus mom and dad would get back from overseas. Bro and I had helped Aunt Rosemary prepare a feast and welcomed them back. Come night, nevertheless an impatient wait, I wanted to spend some time with my night- friends. Lestat hugged me as soon as I stepped through the door. “Louis is inside. Do you like roast pigeon? I wanted to buy turkey but it smelled bad.” “Yea! Louuuuie! ” Marcus called out to the other guy. I said okay. Marcus bolted into the kitchen. Their voices a murmur. Lestat bade me sit down. He had cut his hair (late last night, as I had still seen him with his old hairstyle) and looked fresh as a youth. Decked in a silvery collared shirt, and cobalt trousers that hugged his figure. Oh I forgot to describe what I was in: pink blouse with slight frills, vertical stripes and my best skirt that stopped at my ankles. Lestat bade me to sit down. There was a Christmas tree on the right side of the living room. It was very tall, streamed in silver and gold. Bells and fairies. “When did you put that up? I didn’t see it. ” “Two nights ago. You didn’t come for so long. Is it pretty? You can adjust it if you want to,” he replied. His voice was raspy. He picked up a glass of red fluid and drank. I wanted to ask if he had gotten an infection. But I said instead, “It’s real pretty, Lestat.” I used my camera phone to snap a pic of it. Then I went nearer to touch a gingerbread cookie. “You can have that. Louis is preparing food for you guys. Have you eaten dinner?” the vampire smoothly stood to my left, in a movement too fast for me to catch. That reassured me of his health. I nodded. But I got room for more. Stat, what of presents? Do we have? Chuckle. Of course! How could we neglect presents during yuletide? Two each for my dear kids. I laughed. But on my part I had not brought any with me, for the Ls. Since my folks got back, we had forgotten about our giving-gifts, only receiving. Shame sunk in me. Ivan, they bought gifts. We haven’t any to exchange. Being immortals, we just skipped it, hearing Louis’ practical reminder- we are too old for mortal rituals. Still the blond marquis loved mortal rituals! He cleared his throat, covering his mouth. “I’m sorry, man. We didn’t bring any.” He cupped my chin. His bright ethereal irises glittered. “No need. I understand. I have all that I want.” “No we do have gifts. I’ll go and come back.” Remembering a few books that Dad didn’t want anymore, pristine condition as books are his love. They would be perfect gifts. Lestat’s lips went straight. “So fast? Don’t go. Have a bite first. Ivan surely you won’t leave that quick?” His impatience became apparent and persistence too at hospitality. So we gave in and ate Louis’ grilled pigeon. Yea roasted is different but he had made it like a grill. Then caramel and vanilla icecream dolloped in wine glasses. “Wow thank you! They’re sumptious.” We ate everything clean. “Haha, I am glad they are ok. A useful outlet for watching Nigella specials.” “Louis no doubt a chef! I didn’t know,” Lestat teased. The raven-haired scholar laughed. Some sweat glistened on his brow. He said he had to change. Ivan pitied that they could not partake of our food, unable to drink or eat. Vampires only eat to entertain. The blond uncapped a large glass bottle and poured into his glass. “We have this le sang. Special gift from Pandora.” His voice sounded better, closer to the normal vibrant tenor. “What’s up with your throat? Sick?” I could not help asking. He explained gently that he had shouted too much into the mike from last night’s concert. They had one? Man, I would have attended! “You would sleep already. It was at 1. And my friends asked me suddenly to perform. I wasn’t the lead- he sounds better than me! ( grinned) bashed metal to a small night crowd. ” “I thought our voices should be preternaturally gifted too. Why do you have a sore throat?” Lo cut in. Fast to change. His was violet top and brown pants. In this light, they brought out his dark hair’s luster and handsome face. Lestat said, “Way too much yelling. That will cause trauma too. I feel the cells healing already. Don’t worry. Anyway, hope you will open your presents later. ” “Why not now?” Ivan said, jumping up. “I spent ages wrapping them. It’ll break my heart to see them shredded. Did you wrap them yourself?” Louis agreed with a eh bien. They were so sweet gentlemen. You couldn’t tell they were killers of thieves and wantons. “Are you full? Don’t forget the gingerbread cookies.”Louis handed us one each. “There are more hanging.” Lestat was definitely softer than ever. He turned on the Christmas music so he did not have to talk. Louis, is he tired? He is not himself. He is in there. yea maybe worn out from yesterday. You forgot the presents? I wanna go get them. I sat with Prince. We listened and hummed to jingle bells and so on. Although there is hardly snow on Freemandling, it is still lyrical and fitting for the Christmas mood. “Hey I want to go back to my house to take something. Will be right back.” Lestat frowned. But he didn’t say anything. I hugged him and rushed out. *********** I placed a few books into a giftbag so they would look good. “Kyrs why did you not prepare that for Lestat and Louis?” Mom chided. “Mom! It’s xmas. But I thought they wouldn’t-“ She shook her head. “More polite to get some gifts anyway. I want to come too.” “Mom! What if dad and uncle…” She insisted. So I returned to the Rue Royale with my mom plus gifts. By now, she realized that Louis is not human. That’s another tale how she could sense that. “Bonsoir! Felize navidad.” Lestat said, kissing her cheeks. She replied in French. My mom’s French is slower than native speakers, but not bad too. Was a translator between England and France once. It still comes in handy when she is talking to non English customers. He laughed taking the bag. “Thank you. Your gifts are here. Ms Bratford, you can collect them personally too.” Oh! He had actually shopped with my family in mind too. I almost cried but controlled myself. Lestat placed his present on the desk in the centre. “Hi Ms Bratford. Do you want a drink?” “No Louis. It’s ok. Merry Christmas.” We were kind of a family, gathered together for a night of peace and song, yuletide cheer. I’m not Christian, but I read on the meaning of Christmas- it’s when Jesus was born and he symbolizes the innocence and love for mankind. Lestat was telling us the story softly. At home , I could not help ripping at the wrapper. An exquisite earring set with a necklace of cats. And a book about animals. His note said: Dear Bianca, I could not find the game you mentioned. But you love animals don’t you? Always your friend: bratprince ps: Lovely bells on Christmas day! Bro got a magazine about soccer. Louis gave us each pens, of the same model but different colors. Merry Christmas/ felize navidad 2008! My Christmas special- ideal one if I could celebrate it with cute guys L and L! Wednesday, December 10, 2008Masquerade party continued from adventures...Masquerade party- continued from Adventures of Quinn and I !! We made it look like the two of them were inviting one another to the fancy dress masquerade coming up in November. It was something like a belated Halloween party open to all night folk. Organized by some rich tycoon. I knew Lestat would love it! However, upon receiving Rowan’s ‘letter’ which Quinn had forged, he looked troubled. “What’s the matter? Why the face?” Lo enquired politely. Oh no! He doesn’t buy it!----- I yelled in his mind. Louis winced. Lestat stared at the envelope very long without speaking. Finally he mused, “Suddenly she wants to go to a party? That’s not her style. She didn't reply for so long.” Tell him that she did. She misplaced it.------ I said. Louis related this. Stat’s face cleared of doubt but he just put it aside. Usually any letters from friends will be brought to his desk immediately. They have such priority. He seemed to be dreaming and his mind was occupied. “Aren’t you excited by the prospect? Free drinks, costumes which you can rent, if you don’t have them, mixing with people,” Louis added. Lestat replied tersely, “I dunno, that was last century. Maybe I’ll be busy or unwell that night. She will have to go with Michael.” I didn’t understand so I msned Q. Q: that’s Michael her husband. Why? Me: Stat said he doesn’t want to go. What to do? Q: I’ve convinced her he will be there. ask him come to computer. Lemme talk to him. I called Bratp, “Yo! He wants to talk to ya. Sit down!” I vacated my seat for him. The blond vampire shook his head. “Please.” "Another time. See ya." He’d started on the piano. An allegro piece that was heartwrenching. “Nah Later. Why so excited cherie? I’m composing something, don’t interrupt me.” No! this was terrible. My plan was gonna flip. “Bratp, can I talk to you?” I asked. “What about?” Hopefully he was listening. I was going into favorite topic- about my kind. “You want to know why we can change shape? I was telling Quinn all about it. He is very excited.” Louis shot me a very shocked look. That is not in the plan! I don’t understand. I can’t do impromptu. The music stopped. Lestat got up and scribbled on a blank sheet of musical lines. “Hmm. True. But. Why talk to me now?” Because! Ignoring Louis' plead that he couldn't do impromptu planning, I bugged the prince some more. I loved bugging him to his limit. “Why don’t you open Rowan’s letter?” I asked after awhile. “No hurry, besides wanna get this down. I got inspiration!” he exclaimed, smiling. He kissed my forehead and danced to his own internal music. Snapped his fingers and scribbled more notes. Louis brought him an aphrodisiac drink. It’s a vampire cocktail. Marius recommended it if Stat became moody and uncooperative. It happened before on full moon nights. The blond glanced at it and sipped. It looks like normal blood. Hopefully he’s too caught up to notice the difference. “Mon ange. I am sure she said something positive this time. Go read it. Oh yes remember the masquerade we talked about last time? I want to attend it.” His maker sat down, frowning. He was thinking about the music he was composing. “Really? I thought you don’t like socializing. That is my specialty.” Louis grinned hugging him close. “Yes! I missed out on so much.” I crossed my fingers, while pretending to skim a historical book on musicians. Lestat didn’t speak for a long time. “It’s going to be fun. And maybe your friends will be there.” “I know,” he said, looking up. The greys apparent in the light. “When is it? I may have something on.” Man! I knocked my head on the wall behind me. No jump to correct this. Quinn, Stat said he might be busy. We cannot force him to go… ask him to chat with me. I wanted to force him. Though it wasn’t physically possible. Something so close and yet I cannot realize it is very frustrating! ******* He had given noncommittal replies we’ll see and I dunno. On the week before it, Stat asked where the letter was. “Which day is it?” “Day after your special day, the 8th November,” “Ain’t it cool?” Lestat smiled and chuckled reading her letter. Good sign. He said he could not be a gentleman and not turn up. As soon as we hit the party, Lestat went off to do a little Drink. So I rendevous with Quinn and Rowan. She was in fairy blue, her mask amber. Quinn said, “He’s inside. Go on.” Quinn wore black silk, slicked back his bangs. His shades were tinted so I could not see his eyes clearly. But the smile was warm and sincere. We shook hands. Thumbs up! “Yes our fruit is at hand. It works!” Lestat hadn’t wanted to dress up- uncharacteristic of his playful nature. He turned up as a white gentleman in modern jacket. Tonight the light reflected his golden mop as white gold. He watched people playing Russian roulette impassively. Rowan crossed the large hall on high heels. Elegant piano music played. Spontaneously, couples held hands and began their waltz. Lestat’s face animated when he saw his soulmate. Louis stood at the other exit. Are you jealous, Louis? No, of course not. I knew my maker needed a woman. Who would fit the bill besides her, the leader of the witches? Quinn nodded.------- I uncovered his secret when he was with us. Not that it was conspicuous. Still I’m euphoric on their behalf. This meeting needed to be! Rowan’s back faced me. Lestat blinked quickly. He walked forth and held out his arms. Then his lips moved. Oh he was inviting her to dance too! They blended in with other couples. The room darkened, I could not see them. Am I glad we persuaded him to come! He’s so happy. We only met up two hours later. Rowan laughed at something our friend said. Her face was misted with perspiration. She held girlishly to his arm. Lestat shot us a glare when she turned to the left to get a snack. Why is he mad?------ I popped. Louis and I smiled in response. He said----- Maybe he found out that they didn’t write the letters at all. Otherwise why would he scowl? Never mind. Lestat repressed his ire and smiled charmingly at his girlfriend. They leaned close for a kiss. After a while, he Thought—I want a conference later guys. I certainly did not write a letter like that. ******** Lucky Q left the scene. We definitely said no we didn’t know. Rowan was holding her copy of Lestat’s ‘letter’ of invitation. “I did not recall writing this. And this is a joke, my L is always larger and curlier than the other hanging letters. Who forged this?” he asked, voice level. I tried to analyse if he was totally furious and shaking with uncontrollable rage. Nope. “It’s alright. They just wanted us to meet up and talk. I understand completely. Mine was done by Quinn.” “Little bro! My god, he’s getting into mischief isn’t he?” Louis explained everything. It had been in motion since two months before. “Since we could not get you to agree it was the only solution.” Lestat laughed, crossing his arms. “I’m trying to be angry as I should. But hafta confess, I knew nothing till tonight. Who masterminded this? You?” Blue eyes leveled at me. “Hey. No no we didn’t. We worked as a team. It is a brill plan.” Rowan giggled, her face flushing. She winked at me you meant well and asked him to go with her to show her around. “Lo it isn’t the end is it?” “Lucky if it was. Not likely. I managed to do it yet it was not good enough. I knew we should not have.” “Don’t! I loved it. And we will get closer as this passes over. Bad things always finish quickly.” Stat had his fiercest face on, while we explained the events at home to him. “ You gave up so early! When I said no, you just gave up and didn’t call me again? So dishonest. Louis you are and always will be my favorite. Yet you always look at my stuff but dunno how to forge? ” “Please teach me. I am humbly in your service.” He growled. “I feel betrayed by my family! This is the fifth or sixth lifetime already. Bianca.” “Sorree. I had to. You are soulmates, I got that message when you confided in us.” Tragic melt in his hard marble. “I was afraid that she would- ask me to grant her my gift. This is why I don’t want to see her again. (returning to us, Lestat smiled) you had to accelerate the process huh? My heart would give up if she did.” He pinched my ear. I yelped and scrabbled to escape. “Then don’t.” “You think it’s so simple? Our song in each other, our common dreams. I gave her up so I would not be selfish. How much more could I take if she rejects me when she becomes my fledgling? As Mona has illustrated, a witch with our gifts is more volatile.” “I am glad we could discuss this so frankly now,” I declared, hugging him. He froze, then stroked my back. Held me at arms’length. “Thank you.” He bared his fangs. I felt a surge of fear. |
