Wednesday, September 17, 2008Chapter 67
That’s our secret! How could you? ----- Ivan yelled in my head when I gently and tactfully told sensei chan that we had been trying to scan worldwide for his mother.
Yes but he is asking why I’m zoning out! It’s alright, he won’t mind. I can feel his anxiety lowering. That is better for his health too. Can you try to find a loophole in there so we can find out why we pick up this weakening scent? Have to search out what he is concealing from us!
Lestat was eyeing us suspiciously yet masking his face with a blank gaze. Harmless completely. I wanted to hit my bro. my face flushed hot.
Then the vampire poured a glass of water.
The ice clinked. He set it in front of me. “Cool down. You handle your anger like my Fire. Drink.”
I thanked him. Ivan smiled smugly.
“I was thinking… have you asked anyone older to interprete these visions, cherie? If it’s always disrupting your thoughts, it may make you distressed.” The gentleman spoke softly.
“Yes. I’ve told them. Omega and Sera think I’m a Talent. I don’t want it, this curse. It haunts me.” I replied to the cross on his throat. If I had direct eye contact I would burst. And never look into those windows for fear you will leak out your own secrets.
I had to guard mine.
The gift of True past chilled my very heart. I would rather not have this. Will anything happen to them? To my friends? What do they all mean?
Bianca is there any way I can help? Lestat asked again, My elders have divining power. They can help you. More experience than I have.
I see. You’re not alone. Rest assured I will be there too.
Then he rose and left us. Saying he needed to get some shopping done. Most likely it was because he didn’t want us to stop him from buying stuff. He loved to splurge.
“You suspect he’s ill? Then why don’t you talk it out?” bro shouted.
“Forget it. It’s been so hard keeping it to myself, my gift. You need to help me here. Don’t you love him too? But he can be so obstinate!” I said indignantly.
“Ok. Go with your plan.”
20 minutes later, the crowds parted as the immortal weaved past. Lestat waved, coming over. He was breathless. “Sorry to have kept you. I got hungry too.”
Sweat shimmered on his brow. He coughed.
“Let’s sit down.” I took his arm.
“Wanna show you something, no time. C’mon the shops will close soon. Please, let’s go now!”
No one could resist such a strong persuasion from beloved princie. We dutifully followed him as he exclaimed at cute things, gentlemen’s textiles, quaint furniture, collectibles and Tissot watches. While he was testing a Tissot, I racked my mind on how to get him to sit down. His labored respiration worried me.
I feigned a yawn. It worked! Lestat hailed a cab. We left exactly at midnight, 5 straight hours of mall action. “Retail therapy. Didn’t you do that when we were not in?”
The blond paused to check his phone. “I was bored alone. I like people to be with me like just now! We had such a great time. Thank you!”
I took his hand, trying to probe. No success. He smiled and leaned back, admiring the lights. It wouldn’t do to insist or press him. Vampire moods. I had to get hold of the diary!
Next day his yellow book on my table with a note: hi you were asking. Was not in a mood to do so much, sketchy at most… tomorrow night I will be covering the French Revolutions. See ya! Thanks for accompanying moi, Stat with love!
Boring. Nothing to do today except see salamanders crawling and sleeping. They are so dormant. Danny had them all in his tank. Then I slept and painted. The picture turned out so ugly I tore it up.
Not much, tired. Didn’t feed well. Need to go. Too lazy. So M asked me along but I said no.
Surfed web for info about vampires. Lots of my kind, dunno if they are real. (no indication of fatigue at all. But I’d sensed it.) bought gifts for us. Haha can’t remember birthdays. Want to prepare myself.
Sun watched anime yesterday and today. People do so much killing! Unbelievable. Sickening enough already. Hope for some child’s content. I think Disney has. D asked me to join band. Yay will go on next Fri!
No one miss me. Tragic. I didn’t get any emails or sms at all. I know how to check my phone.
Something came up. Had a long hot shower. Louis said wanted to go to this festival.
I obliged as I dunno what else to do. Quiet and dramatic people. He bought a set of new pens and other stationery. I like the wraps. Looking under my bed uncovered secrets. A bottle and my hat. Thought I lost him.
Wrote some letters to people. Friends mostly. The music is very weird. Need to tweak some notes. B doesn’t sound right on the first try. M made me go for a meeting. Very important she said so I went.
I’m back. Nothing productive. I won’t follow rules. Too much trouble! If only people don’t trouble me with their problems. I hate solving all their problems for them.
I didn’t gain much from this little information. It was not a good sign- the Bratprince loves venting and thinking out on paper. Always been an advocator for passion, Lestat didn’t summarize his experiences, he made them dramatic, animated and fun.
I went for a quick dip and stretched out my limbs in the cool water.
In his bedroom I had come across a pill. I told my clinic’s medical personnel to check it out. The nurse said, “Looks old. I will ask Dr. Manns to conduct some tests. Come back again two days.”
Nightfall. It didn’t come fast enough for me. I had made sure I got some shuteye in the lazy evening at my house. Bro was also with me and a few cousins. But they were going out camping.
My friends weren’t in. I could tell by the scent.
I Sent- Lestat! Hey.
After some time he Replied- yo! What is it? I am coming. How was my diary, interesting?
Disappointing. Where’s the storytelling, the images and vivacity?
His laughter swirled the kaleidoscope of music and colors in my mind. It also tickled.
I wondered—why didn’t you say more?
Louis popped in at this moment, saying hi. I smiled and accepted his hug.
Um, where did you sleep?
That’s secret. I visited old friends. We didn’t know time flew so fast so I stayed over.
20 minutes later, he stepped in, flung off his coat. The golden hair was dishevelled. The heavy pain in his body felt much worse than last time. I froze to my spot.
The French Revolution. “If only I’d been there, I could have saved them. But we were so far away then, in
He didn’t stop speaking, ignoring the sensation. Louis had no indication of noticing. I asked him mentally to get one pillow. “Lie down,” he told Lestat.
Just as his mother had controlled herself, he also resembled her in this aspect. Suddenly, my best friend fell back, one hand clawing at the centre of his chest. Legs kicked.
He fought to breathe, head raised slightly. Louis cradled his head, whispering something. I sobbed. His hand flailed for support. Then he went still and passed out.
Louis laid him on the pillow and left him alone to rest. Slight sweat matted his pale forehead. I said thickly,“Did you know?”
“Yes. But he didn’t tell me directly, I found out from Armand… he said he wants to spend time with us.” Everything else was unspoken, he was fretting, he wanted to cry, but he couldn’t make it come.
Disbelief and confusion on Bratprince. He sat up, pushing aside the comforter. For a while, he simply tried to clear his mind. His voice was husky. “What happened? Why am I on the floor?”
Realisation… he explained, “My blood pressure dropped, that’s why I collapsed. I’m fine now.”
“Were you planning to carry on like this?” we demanded.
“No! You don’t understand. I’ve prepared myself. Don’t panic.” His voice however was quaking. I rubbed my eyes. “Don’t be like that. Louis. Please don’t fall apart now.”
His fledge rubbed his shoulders. “I won’t. Come on, can you stand?”
“Yep.” Bratp rose. His knees held as he walked to a chair. I couldn’t control my tumultuous emotions.
“Bianca, sit here. Where was I?” he asked, turning to the desk and flipping his papers.
I refused. Louis motioned-stop it, just do as he requests.
Stat seemed about to explode. He sighed, his lungs sounding clogged. Purse of the red lips. “Enough time has been wasted. Let’s treasure every moment together, ok? Come.”
