Tuesday, November 18, 200868: Avoidance and banter
“Oh yeah that will be majority of my effort again,” Stat remarked, grinning. He’s referring to a new jigsaw puzzle that I had just brought in today. I estimated that it would be larger than the glass table in the living room.
“No the other times I wanted to help. But you finished it all by yourself!” I argued. But in good nature banter.
Suddenly the box was whisked from my grasp. “Oi!”
“You always win gal- a prairie house! Sweet. I think it should be all right. If not I can put a board. Should’ve got those somewhere…” I allowed my friend to plan out. He always makes himself leader in the house. It gives him security I suppose. An image of a male lion standing on top of a cliff jumped to mind. I chuckled.
Our walls are bursting with paintings and completed jigsaws. Usually we would have music lessons together, yet tonight Bratprince said his mind was exhausted. Acting his naughty-boy self.
I had done some revision on eighths and twelfth notes. “Why not a twelfth note? It’s the same.”
He pressed a thumb to his temple. I don’t know. I’ll tell you another time. Want to start on the jigsaw?
But I’m keen to start today yet you don’t want- you want me to be a musician or not?
Shh, look at that. Isn’t it a robin? Or a thrush?
Medical appointment with Dr Jesse. Had turned up just on time as he could not endure the waiting room. Seated on the white couch, he felt intimidated by the size of the syringe. Had to turn down
“Hey do I really have to go under the knife?”
The woman was shorter than he was. Brown hair, amber eyes with spectacles, heart shaped face. Icy aura not radiating anything. Her mind was blocked to scanning.
“No relax. Where is the softest part of your body?” Jesse said.
Whenever he felt nervous, chattering incessantly would result. Lestat could not resist speaking to this amazing woman who reminded him of his soulmate Rowan…
“Be careful not to spill any blood on yourself. It’s special, may be bitter.”
Dr Jesse frowned and swiped alcohol on his white wrist. The vein looked drained and thirsty. She was focusing so much that he could not elicit a reply. The point went in.
God, it burned when it penetrated halfway.
Next best thing- seduction.
“How do you work with our kind? Don’t I make you swoon? It’s ok if you feel faint.”
Jesse just said dryly, without eye contact, “This helps you sleep. I’m trying this dosage first, but I’m not sure of the full effects. Tell me if you’re feeling sick ok? Then I can gauge what kind of drug to give you Lestat. May I look at your diary?”
That was the first time she addressed him directly, but even then she just glanced briefly at his face and busied herself wiping her hand on a cloth.
“Sure.” Not sleepy yet, he reached under his coat. A necessary record of his fluctuating health. First time he had an issue, as had began when he did not take precautions and got shot by Hunters.
She explained more on O and A bloodtypes, dnas, complicated platelets and stuff. One tube contained human blood. The twinge in his arm numbed, woozy. Lestat’s vision narrowed, darker and darker. He let it embrace him completely.
Before total sleep took over, David, Derrick, Marius and his friends all tried to stop him from losing touch.
Don’t try to run. We’ll meet you there----Amadeo commanded.
I won’t. Too drowsy, see you downstairs, I’m coming. ---- he answered bristling. Damn he’s no longer coven leader!
The bandage done, his left wrist looked as if a mummy had done some colorful work. Vague ache throbbed. The room moved when he stood up. After a few minutes, it stabilized and Lestat headed for the elevators. Halfway there, the doctor offered to walk with him.
“I’m not shocked that you have recovered completely. Leave the bandage there till tomorrow. Your wrist swelled. Allergic reaction to the needle.”
“Yes I understand, Dr,” he said cheerily. She smiled, melting the ice around her.
“Are you afraid of me?”
Jesse’s amber pupils widened. Her tone betrayed that detection, “No. I prefer to work with my patients objectively.”
Lestat nodded. “Oui. Pardon my intrusion and excessive chatter. I wanted to distract myself since you didn’t.” He nodded to let her enter the elevator first. She pressed 1.
“What time do you knock off?” he turned to face her.
She stared pointedly at his curls and how reflective his nails were. Flash to more instructions to give. Lestat basked in the attention, grinning. She was gutsy.
“Now. You are my last patient. This time, I won’t prescribe any more drugs for you. The shot was to stabilize your bloodcount. Remember to come again next month.”
“Ok. Want to go out for dinner sometime, Jesse?” he asked cordially.
Why? I don’t know I may not have the time. Usually I work till 9.----- she said.
But she agreed to leave her cell number. Lestat wanted to touch her lips and her cold cheeks to thank her directly for her kindness. He had freaked inside the room. Unlike Louis he wasn’t claustrophobic but phobic of hospitals.
The lift touched down. Jesse hurried out and turned right immediately. He Sent a thank you mentally.
At the lobby full of plants. His favorite child of the millennia stood impassive waiting for him. Louis would not openly display his emotions, quite the opposite of himself.
And old friend Amadeo had come with his car.
The girls immediately jumped on him.
She nodded, moving behind Armand. He didn’t like the way Armand propelled him to the carpark. “Where’s the chic? She’s hot.”
“Ha, shy. She left already. Lucky I got her contact. We’ll go for dinner one day.”
Krys laughed. Lestat glanced at the werewolf. Her reticence- Must have felt rejection. She did not want to talk.
Second night, I felt the urge to talk with Bratp. Why had he refused to explain the music stuff to me? His emphasis was on meaningful time spent to groom me. Had he forgotten his goal?
He said no, too busy in the Transfusion room with Louis and Armand. Three-way granting of the Blood, le sang.
Hmm what time you sleeping? Occupe now. Flash of violet aura, stimulant.
Gonna sleep 12. Please come soon.---- I pressed.
Louis---- aww, too short a time. I apologized.
Meanwhile I chatted with Quinn on msn for awhile.
Q: hope my family doesn find out my true self. They think I’m good. Want it stay that way.
Elfin: yea. Better. U r seeker of good.
Elfin: cant believe my dad moved my things! So mad at him!
My friend knocked the door, let himself in and tousled my hair. “What is it? I was thirsty and could not find any victims.” I touched his bandage.
It was. Better now. What did you want to say?
I looked up at him, tenderness pouring out of me. I want you to be safe, worried sick. When you blacked out, everything ceased. All of us felt the cutoff!
His hand cupped my chin. The violets dancing in the dim light. I’m here and kicking aren’t I? A much heavier dosage. Man! Do you know I missed the opera ! I wanted to wake up earlier
“Merde! Should’ve gone for it on Sunday but it was finishing.”
I smiled at his heated passion. “It’ll come back again.”
Then he considered something. “Was
“She won’t be unforgiving. Last time I hurt her feelings deeply but she forgot them. Take her out.”
Lestat relaxed visibly. He reclined on the chair. “You need to tell me something?”
“yes. The vampire killings are on the rise. I feel so afraid for you guys. My visions were nightmarish. Please be careful.”
He said he would and hugged me close. I had almost burst into tears but now did not. they would be ok, Armand would protect them. And all was in control. He was going to listen to me. My parents had been urging us to move house again. Dad wanted us near them for college. I didn’t want to go.
“I shouldn’t worry you now. You’re not well.”
My friend took my hand. “I am fine. We’ll talk to Mr Bratford, I can’t bear you children to go. It makes my home worth coming back to when you’re here.” A catch in his voice, ruby tears. He repressed himself.
“Night. If you’re scared let us know. They’re only possibilities of things happening, M said.
I didn’t know how the talk went. I guess they worked on it. Since our little talk, Stat came in more often. He had prepared supper himself, bottle of wine and a sandwich for me. huh I didn’t drink.
“The bottle’s mine. Try that. It’s special peanut butter.” He set down the tray. I bit into it.
“Um, how special?”
“I made it for you. What do you want tomorrow? I’m your servant, loyal and true.”
Then the phone rang. Lestat said Quinn and then they chatted. I saw a note under the bottle.
Louis: you talk tonight, but tomorrow let’s have some fun together. I’m bored with reading and sleeping early. Jealous of attention.
Roger- I said.
“- haha really? Me too. I want to get it over with. Miss ya. Ok I will go online. Promise. Come visit would be nice. But don’t need to bring cakes anymore. Will gain weight. Louis buys blackforrest every week. Bye take care!”
