Chapter 51 Choices
When I say Louis is taller, it’s a private joke. You know the gripes of male height and ego? But Stat will not fail to crack a smile. We do use secret telepathy, whenever the musician may be forgetful of the pact we signed. He will glare at us “are you nuts?” which will worsen our giggling fit. It is nice to see Lo laughing. “Stop it. stop. Oi look here…” he will demand so petulantly.
On another topic, I have introduced David Talbot to you, he is the investigator of the paranormal. Very close to Lestat and saved him a lot of times! But the first time he came, I didn’t like him. The blood smell was just disgusting! And his aura was sinful aura. This poacher- air about him. David gave me a helluva fright when he turned up at no advanced notice. How rude! And I loathe people turning up like that, so I have a bad impression.
Don’t you want to meet him?- Louis asked, preparing. He had pulled on a presentable gentleman’s blazer on top of pajamas.
I cowered at the porch.
No! He stinks! I don’t get it—why talk to him? I’m not gonna go out. I’m gonna stay here. I grumbled back.
Ok. I’m jealous, hafta admit. Stat is so nice to him! He pampered him a lot after the body thief incident, and still does. But David is our friend and ally. He was kind to many of us when we went to his HQ in
Louis please don’t let him come up. Aaah he’s coming up. I went to the balcony and stood on it making an invisible shield. He promised that he wouldn’t tell him I was there.
I repeated the same when Lestat had him over to discuss something. D. could handle investments too! Wow, but I didn’t want to have anything to do with a killer.
Why?--- the bratprince wondered. He waited for me, frowning. I wouldn’t let him hurt you, cherie. c’mon.
I don’t like… I smell blood on him.
Of course he is also vampire. Uneasy?
Definitely. I’m sorry but… not now.------ I replied, flying to the tree outside. Bratp. seemed disappointed, but he did not push me.
These days I tolerate the man, but I keep envisioning the innocent animals slain. Tigers. They are such graceful and strong beasts, kings of the jungle by their own right. How dare that British sod shoot at them freely! No wonder they got endangered. Lestat dreams of a tiger staring, he himself is the tiger and David tries to open fire. Only, the end is the vampire gets the hunter. The other animals are pheasants, deer for their horns, wolves. I love wolves next to lio
ns! They are my friends.
“Chels, hey how would you feel if you got shot by this man?” I asked her.
“Positively eugh! I would bowl him over first!”
“I don’t like him coming to our house. But the Ls care for him. I won’t go meet him! Absolutely not. I bet his eyes on me, he’d know me for who I am immediately.”
David did sense who I really was, though I was careful to remain in human form. Under my supervision, my friends didn’t tell him. But disguises fail.
# 3: Dispute over comparing D vs Lo
I made a pencil charcoal sketch of Lestat, fangs out. His comment was: wow looks like me! But the fangs, surely they don’t stick out so much.
Me: it’s to show explicitly u are a vamp.
Le: hey. Don’t have to do that. (pouts)
When he picked up my mechanical pencil to write, the lead fell out. Bratp. apologized. “Sorry, how do I put it back in?” Picking it up the whole thing broke. “Shit.”
“No worries man. I’ve got another boxful. Come.” I showed him how to stick it in from the back, and that I had to be gentle with it. He got distracted very fast.
“Go out with me, ok? It’s a good night out there.”
He was wounded by this. Do I need a reason to be with my dear family?
It is sweet you consider me that… but I don’t mean that. What happened? You guys… I sighed.
Louis… he--- a problem between us Bianca. Let’s go out, I’m so stuffed. Please.------ Stat answered, rising. He bounced a little on his feet.
Ok. So what really happened? He didn’t answer, gestured outside. I pulled on a pink cardigan and tied my hair to stop it fluffing around.
#4 Once we were outside, near the river in the forest…
Aloud was the confession my friend made “I need your help. Feel so bad. I told him, not to show his face again, wait. Unless, he reflects his actions. David is more cultured than… ( I knocked my forehead) I know--- so evil of me.” He winced.
“Hey why didn’t you think first before you spoke? Guys like you!” I moaned. Which means I gotta be medium.
He flashed me a worried and grateful grin when I tried to Find Louis.
I want to be alone. If nothing short of emergency, don’t contact me again! Louis snapped. He didn’t care about being rude to me. He must be raving mad ----- I’m so angry with Stat! I need fresh air. Told me to get lost, so I can’t come home. I won’t.
I chanced a guess---- David? Is he the problem? No admittance of that, but grudging sulk.
Ok I get it. sorry----- I pulled out. “Is he there? Where?” Lestat asked, ready to fly there. I relayed to him the anti social message. The handsome heart-shaped face crumpled in defeat. He looked on the ground, sniffed. I touched his sleeve.
After awhile, the normally extroverted musician whispered, “Um, tell him I love him. No matter what. I’m sorry.”
I closed my eyes. Lestat’s brow was furrowed, making his skin puckered up. His fangs biting down on lower lip, fists in pockets. “He says yea he will come back. But not now.”
“Cooling off time. yea… makes sense, thanks a bunch!”
I stared at him, annoyed. “You know how sensitive he is. And you compare him to David? They are individuals. Why do you get stirred by the slightest things?”
I thought the redness in his face would mean he would yell it was none of my business. It was a conflict among old old immortals! Lestat took a shaky breath. He said evenly, “I didn’t mean it… I always shoot off when I’m onto something. That’s my bad. I hate myself!”
I shook my head. Tears were drying up on his face and he looked like a red painted clown who got fired. New ones coming up from the blue orbs. Sorry sight. I took out a bunch of tissues. He accepted them. “Let’s go sit down. Don’t be sad. It’s over,” I comforted him.
Lestat wiped at his face, discarding some of the tissues. His voice was jaded, and muffled, “Better now, Bianca. Thank you. You’re so patient all the time. So willing, even if it burdens you. I wish I could be more patient. I admire that in someone.”
“Ah don’t be so mushy. Stop, or I will puke at your new pants.”
The blond laughed faintly, and then the last traces of depression left him. He touched my nose. “Don’t. I got them for over 300 dollars. We’re supposed to be the adults here. Right? That won’t change!” he got stronger in tone, “But, sometimes it’s role reversal. Sorry about our weaknesses. And I was wrong.” Lestat’s eyes became thoughtful, in rare instances you can see that. It’s a mix of dreamy and sad.
“I never learnt to reflect so much. People get mad at me. I need to try. High time I did.”
I knew I could comfort him. “You take action! Your recklessness is a power! I admire that!”
He laughed like a kid. “Hmm, it’s not because it’s that great. Or noble. As some wise men put it, I want people’s love of me. And, I just hate not taking action. It’s static, you copy? I don’t like planning. Takes too long. So I Move!”
To be continued…
