Monday, November 19, 2007Chapter 52: Brain talk, Louis comes back.... is hibernation gonna come?
Louis… he had torched their houses three times, including a theatre. Maybe there were other instances that did not get reported. However, the philosopher’s book reported it like it was an everyday incident. It was funny! Lestat was still beside me, recovering from crying.
“Bianca-chan, will you do something like that?” he asked.
Mind-reader had cracked my secret thoughts again! “Err… of course not. You’re my friend. I couldn’t.”
Lestat rose and walked back home. I followed. “How did you Read me? I was so careful to hide.”
“Yea, but it’s easy to follow the music. Your signature, I’ve learned how to decode it,” he replied. I shook my head.
Goner. I am toast. Can’t carry out any secret operation-------- I trilled. I can’t hear the music though….
I Can------ he said amused. I think it’s because your telepathy has strengthened. That’s a good thing, really! Now you can communicate even longer-distance than before.
Bad coz I can’t shield from people. When I summon animals, they get frightened. Blue color for sadness.
Hmm, you could try to narrow it down to a frequency you can hear. Take it slow… How’s school? Other than homework and exams?
We were back at the large mansion again on top of the hill. Stat commanded the doors to open and they closed silently as we entered the living room. He waited for me to catch up.
Lousy! I’ve been trying to get accepted by more people. My group’s scattered…. But it’s so frustrating. Because I’m quiet when I’m in a big group. Don’t get a chance to talk.
He nodded. Ok… you’re shy. If they can’t accept it, they’re no good for you.
I wish I could talk a lot more, my friend’s advice is to keep blabbing nonsense. I dunno how!! I’m not an extrovert. People favor jokers and talkers more. It’s so unfair. What about the wise brains?
I like the quiet. They listen. Too many people talking’s Noisy. Flash of neon.
He touched my hand. The warmth made me look up. Oh silk gloves. Lestat you’re such a good speaker. At everything!! Tell me, how do you talk? I never figured that out. How to talk nonsense?
Anything that comes into mind. I have very thick skin.------- We both guffawed.—when I was little, also like you. Stifled by family, I couldn’t talk too freely or would be hit. My mother was coldly distant. Only when I got outside, things changed. I realized I had to speak, or be forgotten. Couldn’t allow that. The smile was accepting and open. Won’t fade away to nothing. I shall be the light!
You are indeed. But we don’t need to be in the light. It’ll never have a proper solution how-to! I need to go for a course “How to talk rubbish”. Oh, I won’t fit in!
And you want to be popular…. Is that it?----- my friend wondered.
No… Stat. I’m not sure, why are people scared when I’m quiet? That’s what happened, one of the gals in my group thought I was hiding things. But I don’t! …. then accused me of being secretive. I’ve never admitted this before, since primary school, I preferred being alone.
I see. Hmm------- he replied. The library was new. Every book arranged in alphabetical order. I surveyed this, running over the spines of the books. Cool!
He replied softly------ Yup I also felt that way. When my fledglings don’t talk to me. I suppose, the silence is horrible to us who love voices. At least you can share your thoughts. That’s good.
Why would people judge me? It isn’t fair to me.
Because they are scared. Or, they feel threatened. They think, since you’re quiet, you got secrets to hide. Stupid, I wouldn’t think so, of you. Or… infinite curiosity? What is behind that great Quiet? Don’t worry, can’t make everybody like you right? Even if you talk rubbish. Backstabbers, cowards, ingrates.
“I need to ask you something, how to conceal my feelings? I’m too open,” the blond spoke aloud, breaking out of telepathy.
So sudden was the change that I laughed. He glared at me offended.
I sniffed at him. Smelly. “Oi, not meant to be funny. I wash! I shower almost everyday.” I gripped his hard shoulders and looked directly at him, into the swirling depths of the eyes, the large generous mouth, red lips, soft blond hair. I blew the fringe off. They came back.
When you want to belong, you’ll brave heaven and earth to. If only I could! I haven’t figured that out, till now I’m still the Silent watcher…it’s unfair I can’t read their minds. His silent voice screamed.
“Did you hear me?”
“Yes yes. Don’t open yourself too much. It’s so loud… Your emotions and words get tangled up. ” I complained.
He tried to make it less noisy, frowning. Emotions--- words. Mentally he parted them like a cutter. “Like that? Calm down, calm down…” Murmur.
To be calm, he puffed out his cheeks. Took deep exaggerating breaths. “I can’t hold it in. will blow up.”
But he actually wrote down all these steps eagerly. Plus highlighted with blue marker!
“Bianca dearest, you hurt me so deep sometimes! You should consider the feelings of your friends.” Candid but true, people told me that and I don’t like it. But from Bratprince’s lips it sounded complimentary, natural for me even!
I smiled. “I know. Can’t lie to anyone. Sorry.”
Pause as we both pondered on our unchangeable spots—his inability to be less emo. And my inability to disguise anger or disgust to such a brutality!
He was really curious if people actually got insulted by me before. “Aren’t you worried you’ll be hit, one day?”
I looked stoic while I mouthed, “Don’t give a damn!”
Lestat was outraged, in an exaggerato fashion. His brows went right Up, bounce on the chair and a huge gasp it almost hurt my ears. He pretended to sniff sadly, forlorn.
I giggled. You acting right? I’ll whack them right back if they hit me, so can try to..
Tsk tsk, cherie. Are you a girl or a guy? Really, my heart got broken and smacked when you told me that. As for these, (the instructions I recommended on how to be less emotional and uptight) I will try. But, no guarantee… it’s kind of impractical for me.
I understand him, he is an open book. Complicated open sort of book, tumultuous and scared, strong but talkative, feminine and masculine (androgynous actually) at the same time. That’s why we love vampires, don’t we all?
The gray eyes reflected an evanescence absent that night. “But I Will give this a shot! One condition, ready?” My friend curled an arm about me, making me press against him. I inhaled his scent and coat texture too. Nodded.
“Here it is, you gotta try too. Being considerate’s important. Consider me old-fashioned. Ruthless and so on… I never learnt anything new except face my fears. Please try.”
I agreed and only then did he let me go and we had our alone time. Much to my relief.
His expression had become yearning, like the time Stat was in my room and about to nip me. Both of us wouldn’t be ok—my blood is toxic to them, will wreak havoc in the intestines and vampire blood is thin and bitter. Did I find the need to be wary?
Yes, the canines can cause a rupture.
Thankfully Louis came back 2 nights later, sated and refreshed. Prepared for our fierce and overwhelming maternal-like instincts. His maker grabbed him tightly and pushed him against the wall, locking his lips. The shy guy didn’t struggle, just let him. Lestat leaned back, stroked a cheek, his hair.
“Not hurt are you? Don’t stay mad.”
“How could I? hey guys (to us). I abandoned you. It must be you angry with me.” I squeezed his hand. Marcus waited patiently. Louis walked to the sofa and touched his shoulder friendly.
“I was! But I got plenty company. We went around traipsing, having cuisine, meeting new buddies, even animals. Didn’t we have fun guys?” Stat trilled, gesturing with a flourish. Bro bowed to him and told Louis about animals we tried to communicate with. It was telepathy fun night. Went wild touching the minds and making contact. Stat succeeded in calming himself, coz I told him they got timid very fast.
Lestat then staggered to the table. Oh no. Louis jumped to his side. “You ok?”
Is it the illness relapsing? Like the other time?
The blond gave a weak smile, waving us off. His lips were pale grey. “Dizzy. It’s not necessary to drink that much at this age.”
“You need to.”
He gripped Louis and steadied himself. “Waited for you first.”
“I saw some people outside the big screen cinema, at 43 Randling street.” Glaze over Stat’s expression, curve of lips, and he was out the door. I ran to the window, he was a preternatural blur.
“Um where did you spend the nights?” I asked.
“Cemetary, nope, it wasn’t scary.”
“But aren’t you as strong as ghosts? Or they stronger than you?”
Louis took me onto his lap and touched my hair. “Depends, if we fear, they are stronger. I wanted a quiet place to think. To feel at ease. Stat was too much that night. I still remember that….”
“Be okay now! We don’t want ya fighting,” bro pleaded. Louis nodded and made a leveling motion with his right hand.
“Don’t worry. I did a lot of thinking, some truth in his words. Just that… I can’t be as good as David and the rest. ”
After a pause, he asked how Bratprince behaved to us.
“He was so Good. Didn’t pester us to call you come home. I noticed he checks his phone periodically though. I asked him to have a drink, always, but he didn’t. I thought he did later on…” we both told him, in varying versions of this.
My bro slipped out a letter. Eh? “ He wanted you to read this. Love note. He speaks of his favorite love for you only. Please forgive him.”
Yea and I thought I whine a lot! I know, I’ll read it. But not in front of you.
So sad, otherwise I could say something of it here. Their lives’ details are open to us, yet, it is only to a certain extent. We don’t know much where they sleep, eat (haha), find pretties, travel, the Night island and the goddess of them. Hmm, Stat once came close to that.
Steered it away. “We have legends… but, not tonight. You read it from my third chronicle didn’t you?” partly accusing was he.
Actually didn’t get to that part yet. Before it was lost!
Louis rocked me gently. In his mind, he was thinking how heavy I was getting. Repressed it to be polite. I slipped off. He turned a ring with an L initial of gold on his index finger. “Who’s that from?” bro asked. In a flash he became the serval, spotted golden feline and batted Louis. The preter smiled, though he felt shocked.
“My close friend.”
“Lestat’d be mad.”
He frowned, slim brows furrowed. Pout of thin red lips. “Don’t tell him. It’s just a friend. She wanted to thank me for helping her in this exam….” Oooh, Louis! Not exactly flirting, he helped out some uni. Students for their literature and accounting exams. They adored him! Accounting you know he’s a genius at, he used to do all that balances, profits and losses in his father’s estate. The Pointe-du-lac residence was not broke, he didn’t leave because he was in debt. Louis left coz the servants suspected him of being an undead and he was in cahoots with Stat. That much is true. Did you guys know he lied about the end? Where Blondie and him were so mushy, don’t go! Don’t leave me Louis, come and see me again…. That’s untrue.
The piano started playing itself. Cool, the gifted musician prince was back. He hadn’t told us. Why? Yo, what’s the celebration? ----- we asked together.
Pause through a melodious piece. Hellllo! --- he boomed. Hey Louis I can hear your telepathic voice! Orange and purple flashing(his brightest mood)
Really?---- Lo replied wryly.
Congrats! Why only now?---- I asked. I don’t have to mediate anymore. But hope it lasts.
I guess we didn’t exchange our blood for such a long time now, kids.
Can we, may we come up?
He laughed, waving the orange light. ‘Of course! It’s okay. Just wanted to play this so I can get down on paper. Then we shall learn it together.’
Louis sniffed. He was so overjoyed he could hear his maker! I felt super elated on their behalf. It’d been so long since they could Talk like that. The wall was broken down.
The prince had cut his hair short again, slicked back the fringe usually in front of his right eye. Louis headed to his room. Marcus greeted him and hugged him.
“Um feels so good! I didn’t see you for nights! Where’ve you been?”
“You just did.”
“You're so late always, young man. Now, how old are you?” Stat purred, pushing him back to look into his face.
“I’m 16 now.”
Lestat nodded. “Bianca, come and sit down. I wrote it out. Try playing it. Marc, I’ve got a card for you.” He let me sit and handed a colorful card to my bro. I peeked. It was so long.
What’s it say?
He thanks me for my presents. Haha. I’m so touched. When I did my projects, I designed some things for him. Like graphics. So thrilled by it.----- bro told me.
He was dressed in a white sleeveless tunic and brown pants when he came back, smelling like a flower. I gave a good inhalation. Hmmmm, yay! “You showered. (finally) ”
Tap of my nose. “Or I’d be pissed off. Sniffing at me. How? Can you manage?”
I did a paragraph. Not sure how to continue with the B flat and F minor. Lestat pulled a monkey face. “I just did that with you, before we went out. Come, look here.”
Louis at his plantation. Me in an imagined puffed up dress.
A still life of Marius. (at least it ought to be him, he’s the only white blond. The others have red or black hair….)
A tiger hunting. Titled tiger, burning bright
All these paintings in the library. “Like them?”
“Yea! You did them? They’re So nice! You got a master for a teacher, eh?” I piped up. “I like this one a lot. Why the title?”
His smile was reluctant, then sweet.
“I taught myself. By observation. It’s quite easy. This title?”
“I had a dream of hunting a man. The eyes were just like a tiger’s.” Then I noticed that the usual exuberance and strength was gone. He seemed burnt out. Oh no, did he intend to sleep? I felt anxious.
Stat laid his head down on his folded arms on the table. I touched his wet hair. “I’ll dry it for you.” No response. When I came back with a stiff brush and hairdryer, he had sat up again, yawning.
I blow dried the bright golden locks. Soon they got fluffy. “Hey you’re tired already? It’s only nine.”
It was a long pause before he said, “I didn’t get enough daysleep. And I had some blood taken.” I told him to rest tonight and it was only five minutes when my sensei went to the sofa and took a nap.
