Thursday, July 19, 2007Revelations--revving up for the real dayThe man was very tall, and his skin was unlike a human being’s. His smile was very largely elongated, hands like dancing insects. He looked very innocent. Beside him stood some humans, you can tell that he’s some kind of… freak. I asked why she trusted me. “I don’t usually. You’ve great potential, and you are friends with the unnatural people.” Miss Mayfair chuckled to herself. “ Bianca, I will teach you how to use them. Sometimes Lestat won’t be able to. He understands, but he might be too deeply in the throes of the dark agony.” I listened to her explanations. Louis was back. In five, the other vampire shut the door, hung up his coat and came to us. He nodded to Rowan. “Hello. Is he asleep?” He was disappointed. I’ve brought something to cheer him up. When will he awaken? The doctor shut up the box and rose again. Not long. You’re all night people. Louis, administer the drug if he needs it. I will come tomorrow, with the stronger dosage. “What? He’s still going ahead, couldn’t you talk him out of it?” Louis exclaimed. He ran his hand through windblown thick hair. I sighed. The doctor regarded him coldly, but factual cold. It was not unkind. I’ve never seen anybody who gives a normal cold stare. She’s a science person, so I guess she’s more introspective. I earned a tiny smile from her. Then aloud, the doctor said, “I could not. You know how obstinate he is. You can undoubtedly try.” “Yea and fail trying. He loves me, and David but won’t listen. Oh, I forget, I bought you some food. It’s still warm.” “I cannot,” Mayfair declined, blushing. I nudged him, no direct stare. She’s shy. Louis looked above her and said, “Please eat. You’re hungry. I know.” I happily declared I would eat too for companionship. Then we talked about shopping. Actually the doc listened, as I discussed which shops I wanted to explore. “Destresses eh?” the dark vampire laughed. “Yup. Totally. Hope you don’t mind strolling up and down. Gonna do some fierce shopping. Let’s get you a haircut too.” That coaxed a laugh from Rowan. ***** When she left, Louis wanted to check if he had woken. He took a small gift along, wrapped beautifully. “What is it? And not his birthday yet.” “You’ll see. Come, I want to see how he fares.” I headed up to retrieve my homework first. Louis knocked and stepped into the patient’s room next door. No speech. The fledge was stroking Bratp’s cheek, dreamy. He lay there, like a sleeping princely faery, gauntness chased away. Quietness descended. The drug was good stuff. “Lestat…” At that point, his rest ended. My sensei opened his eyes a fraction, awareness. Then consciousness as he looked about. “Louiee, miss you. where’ve you gone?” He turned his head slightly, made to push himself up. But he remembered his pain and relaxed again, chest moving. “I’m here now. I got you something.” Lestat held the box like it was a fragile thing. “Thanks a lot. Shall open later.” He coughed, hand clenching the bedsheet. His companion bade him to lie still. The thin hair wisped, pressed down again on the pillows. “I’m sorry. You can sleep now, just wanted to talk to you.” I cleared my throat. Lestat glanced in my direction, his gaze unfocused. “Hey, cherie…” he rasped. It was tragic, he seemed to be blind. Could he see? “Come.” His skeletal hand beckoned, bruises flashing. Blue black marks. I hesitated. He smiled persuasively. I closed the distance. “Um, you… been around? Don’t… see you,” he whispered, frowning. I shook my head. Louis mouthed ‘tell him you’ve’. “Yea I-I have. See, flowers. I put them there.” I caressed the roses. The irony was the ones were new, the old ones had died. I just bought them this morning and used panadol to preserve them. My florist friend said. The blond remained happy. “Really? Yay, thank you. Sorry I’m… in such a state. But couldn’t you sit near me?” His injured hand patted the space near him. He said how dry his throat was. Louis smoothed the damp hair from his forehead. He was swathed in a thick blanket. “Do you want me to make it colder? You’re hot.” Lestat swallowed. It was some time before he spoke. “Ok.” I adjusted the temp. , offered to get him an iced drink. Louis interrupted that yes, he would like that and asked him not to make any more effort to talk. Inside, Bianca, I don’t mean to be so rude. But talking exhausts him. The drink would help, use iced tea. I bought some just now. I made the drink and let ice cubes plop in. I took my time, balancing the glass. My phone vibrated. I set it down on the desk and answered. “Hello?” “I’m gonna be out some more. How’s he?” “Tired.” Bro made a sympathetic sound. Louis murmured some French. The patient nodded, drinking it all in one gulp. I hung up and approached the bed. Lestat looked fresher, he had pushed away his blanket and taken off an extra layer. “How are you feeling?” “Now good. Rowan jabbed me with the… what’s that. Oh yes, I want the strong drug, guys. Did she go…?” Louis explained to him. He listened with alertness. A hand reached out to grip his lover’s sleeve. They kissed. Then the curtains drew close. I was puzzled, he likes the sunset. “Not today. Too hot. Better we’re in the dark,” he told me merrily. I suppose he didn’t want me to see him. I already had and I felt ashamed how disgusted I was. Louis glanced at me- I’m going to try to dissuade him. But can’t hypnotize, so we’ll do this together k? I shrugged. This was gonna be tough. “You said you’ll be acting right? What play is it?” Lestat laughed. “Oui, it’ll be my first time. In centuries! Looking forward to it. It’s something like… Macbeth. An adaptation.” His eyes glittered with eagerness. It’s cruel to burst his bubble. A sudden urge to chain him down, an idea, rushed out. I suppressed this. “Why? You’re—not” “Couldn’t this wait?” Louis prodded. I gingerly took the thin hand, his talons almost scratching. When vamps are weakened, their skin dries up and bones show. So I held his wrist. “It will come by again.” I repeated this too. The patient waited a bit, seeming to gather his strength. He shifted and sat straighter. “Um hm, but I really don’t want to wait. I’m not an invalid.” A positive tone. “The effects are serious. You know…” “Yes of course. But don’t mind, we could go out. I want to,”he wished, focusing on me. I admired his tenacity. “It’ll be a new concept. Come and watch. There’s fighting.” “You too?” He sulked, turned away. “No they’d change. I wish they didn’t do that. I am not a weakling.” He closed his eyes. Mind made up already. I willed myself into Dream state. Lestat smiled. ********* On the 15th, Rowan injected Stat with some liquid bottle. It hurt terribly, his face drained of expression and I could tell by the aching it brought after. He rubbed his sore arm. After that, he regained his old vigor, danced about, practicing his stagelines. He had been reading furiously these few days. Before his promised debut act, I accompanied my friend to the garden. He complimented how nicely we had tended the plants. Blooming garlands, sprays, white lilies. Some had died. I had hurriedly pulled him away from the wilted patches. It was best he did not see the negative parts. We wanted things to be perfect, and not upset him. Ten pages of script to memorize. Lestat beseeched us to be his audience that day, giving an almost complete recital. He did not just read, he articulated and danced. “What woes could he have? Highest haven!” he sang. He moved like a dancer cum acrobat, each gesture careful and deliberate. And he contacted with us confidently and honestly. I mean he gave us each his attention. David clapped the most. Lestat bowed. I marveled that even after years of non-practice and rehearsal, the blond prince could still do this. I wished him well inside. As if he heard me, he grinned, fangs exposed. Then presented me with a pink rose. I took it, infected by his cheer. “Thank you!” My bro got a gift too, handmade. The drug Ancerin would last till tomorrow midnight. Kind of a Cinderella effect. David looked normally calm but inside was turmoil. For the first time, I looked into this mind. He loved, genuinely loved his old friend. Lonely guy, he had called Lestat his only friend to stop him from committing suicide. My bro was so blunt. “No fun to perform. ” Louis chided Marc. “It’s his passion. Say sorry.” Marc covered his mouth. I was mad too, we ought to show our support! Lestat calmly took him by the shoulders. The vivre flare in his body language and expression. “It’s nice, because I improvise. Every stage’s different, unique. That’s fun. Equal to the joys of gaming.” “Really? I did not mean to cut your heart in two. Sorry.” “Your race’s uniqueness. I’m not cutup,” Lestat replied graciously. I was scared something might happen. What if he fainted? Don’t worry so much. Come and watch please. I’d be all dressed up. And let’s go out after. It’ll finish at nine.---- he replied me. Then Louis brought in something on a tray. Tonics. “Medi time.” His master gagged. We all chuckled. “Drink this. Anything to help. You don’t want to pass out do you?” “ I wouldn’t. Stop being a coward (with gentleness) Bitter, ack! ” He scowled and hung out his tongue. Refused to finish the whole mug. ********** Stat invited me to sit beside him while he finished improvising the remainder of the script. One more page. The golden locks came to his shoulders. I was glad his body didn’t ache tonight. “I wanna talk to you alone.” Pause. Softly, he asked, “Am I domineering?” I immediately told him he was kind and brave. “Who said that?” “You did, once. Haha, thought not? Sometimes, I dreamt, but… I could hear. I have a good memory.” He just wanted to confirm again. Lestat’s hand trembled. The table vibrated from the impact. I expressed my concern. Was it not supposed to make him better? “Bianca, it is one of the side effects. Rowan told me and the next time I accept another full dosage of Ancerin, there’ll be nausea and vertigo. Hmm… as a vampire, I never thought this’d be the case!” He turned away, coughing into a fist. It was brief. “Anyway I need it for the next few nights. Then my performance’ll be flawless and energetic.” I accepted this. It was enchanting to see him reading out the lines, committing them to memory almost immediately, altering the sentences into songs. “Something good about my kind,” Lestat added in, grinning. “Thou art my one cher, my master. Thine own my heart….” His ringed fingers tapped the table top, one was a ruby stone, the other garnet. A cotton robe dangled near the door stand. “Stat why don’t you wear the cotton? It’s stuffy tonight and the aircon isn’t on,” I asked. He considered this, not looking up. “Not hot, it’s only for bathing. Today’s weather is beautiful. Isn’t it?” Yea the sun was spot on glaring, when I flew back today, sweat soaked my uniform and my wings. I wished I could stay in aircon and snow for hours! Taking a shower had not helped. It comforted me how positive he was, loving the light which was the natural enemy of the Dark Folk. “Really cool snow would be better. I hate the sun.” The musician was puzzled and replied warmly, “What? I almost missed that comment. Winter’s freezing. The blustery winds outside my home when I was in France. A real force to be reckoned with. I almost got blown away! Woo. We couldn’t go out at all. The storms were horrible. Sometimes, people would just sleep and die, Bianca-chan.” “Scary. Well you had your doggies beside ya and the flames licking.” He nodded. “Yep the great thing. But I didn’t like that weather, always enjoyed the sun more. Still eager to be a snowgal?” Image of me covered in frost and hobbling penguinlike. I scowled. Oi! Not that. this, I showed him I was cloaked in nice faux fur, then flash to my avian form, fully feathered.---- my other vamp friends live in this weather. No sweating. He laughed full-throated, music flowing in my head----- Trust me, winter’s deadly cold. You do perspire, actually. I had to be careful not to sweat, or it’d be pneumonia. You still exert strength running up the slope. Don’t forget those stuff. I shrugged and said my new fav word, “Touche, Brat. I like cooling weather more.” His satin shirt was shiny green, made him so handsome. I complimented him. He flashed his fangs. “Actually Im more waif now. I appreciate that. Merci.” The day was long, the sun still showing its glow into our house. I connected with some deer outside. Last time I had been too shy to talk to pure animals, choosing to keep my mind closed. Greetings. I am Artemis blest.I said to a stag. The animal gazed at me and nodded his bow. When I drew back into myself, the vamp said he’d heard loud music. “You used to hide it from us all. Do you know that?” “it’s bad, I need to conceal it.” He patted my hand, softness on his lips. He had used my gloss, not cracked anymore. “Don’t be so hard on yourself.. your skills have improved. I’ll always love you, ange. My daughter.” He pressed me close. I almost cried at his acceptance and compassion. This is not sentimentality, this is real affection. I did not want my tears to upset him, so I excused myself to get dinner. Lentil and chestnut soup! I got back later. David bid him goodbye, setting foot on the stairs. The blond’s left hand still shook. Tried to stop its involuntary shake but unsuccessful. I pretended that I didn’t see it. “Come in, I’m done. Gonna sleep for a bit before I go out for cuisine.” He went on at length about the old plays he used to do and his bad dreams. I let slip that the role of mon ange was too hard to play. It hurt him. He stopped, filing up the papers, busying himself. I didn’t realize that. The scar on his wrist made me regret thinking that. But he was not mad, he just said, “Cherie it’s late now. here’s a goodnight kiss.” Lestat planted one on my forehead. “Come by tomorrow. Backstage passes for your friends, family.” He reached into the nearest drawer, a stack for me. I blurted that I would see to them. “Can we come when you appear? What time?” Now he was sulky. “No late you hear me. Respect us, we’re professionals. It depends, dunno.” “It’s open-air,” I added. “No doors closing.” Louis sighed and reminded me of my manners. His maker shook his head. He seemed to recall something. “A 20 minute break in between. Hey don’t be late. When I’m done, we could go out together. I’ve already had this in my mind.” Friday, July 06, 2007Role of a cat, i talk to RowanThe Bratp. wanted this role in the production which his friends had set up. Said it wold help him to recover quickly and his energy. However we all knew it was physically demanding. How could he manage? “You’re so weak. Can’t even stand,”a female voice advised. “Oh yea? See, I can too. Santino said I’d be perfect for the role. I also wanna help in his show.” Through the slit I observed his movement, demonstration to prove this. Some sighs, Dr Mayfair said something. I could Hear her mentally, because her normal voice was inaudible. I can give you something, Lestat. It’ll keep up your spirits… but “Then give it to me, Rowan. I need to act. I don’t want to lie there one more day! This is so important to me, don’t you all understand? Danny, Philip, Jesse, I really can. C'mon I didn’t perish after Gobi. Or Kalahari. In winter too,” he added in one breath. My heart seized up. What could she give? It must be a bad thing, I saw how Boris had become worse when they had hookedup his body to tubes and stuff. I always believed in natural healing. Lestat can be so rash when he is determined to carry through something. Has he gone nuts? Maybe the fever drained his mind, the effect of the poison accumulating. “Please listen to Ro. She is the best person. You’re strong, point taken. But… this can wait.” Jesse’s tone was almost 3D, husky and melodious. I know I should go do my homework. But I wanted to know what happened. Danny turned around. He almost said my name, but I placed fingers to my lips. I turned invisible. It’s me, I wanna hear. Adult business. Cosmic barrier. Cool. Wish we had such power. I’m blocking this. Stat too stubborn. How Do you convince him not to do something he has decided on? Haha, I don’t think people have. Ro can, I think. “... side effects to you, Prince.”she had finished and clicked something. “This is a sample of the liquid. I’ll have to work on the formula to ensure it’s safe and clinically generic.” “What do you mean?” Philip asked. I think he was J’s bf. Once Stat and her were together but since she called him Boss, no longer. Did my friend feel her loss? Then again, the Mayfair is his soulmate, he had confirmed. Danny said yea but Armand made her come. She seems willing. Louis was in central, I found his signal and concentrated. Our minds connected over the vast distance. But now I had improved, I didn’t feel the pinch anymore. Louis was flying back, could hear the wind through his ears. ‘Krys, is he gonna act? Really? Can anybody stop him?’ Nope listening to three people try. Rowan detailed blow by blow what she would do. All preters are smart, but still, not educated. You need to tell them in simple terms. Of course once they absorb this info, it is for life. Lestat coughed every few minutes, soft but worrying. How could he sing in this condition? I had not seen him yet this week. Too tired even to talk on the phone, or email. He only replied once, ‘Mon ange. I’m bored. So listless now. Are your tests hard? I’m gonna have tests too, the medicial type. Ouch. Needles. Talk to ya soon.’ I slipped in. The stricken vampire appeared gaunt, he did not even detect my presence. I saw him from the side. Bone worn flesh, eyes slightly bulging, straggled hair, reddened by sweat, his shirt outlined his haggard body. Of course he still looked himself, but having ejected the blood, he showed the symptoms of a hungry animal. 6 feet is not tiny, but Lestat was smaller, compared to the others. I detected a huge throbbing in his chest. He pressed and lay down. They stopped talking. Rowan took his arm. “Are you ok?” He nodded, looking at her directly. Then touchd her face. “Yes. Please… let the dog go. It should be free.” “What?” she was fighting not to squeeze him in a bear hug. I admired her courage. Restraint is a virtue in our people’s language. “He means to chill.: Phlip supplied. Vibrant blond hair tied back, beyond his butt, chiseled muscles, red lips. Incandescent greens like Louis’only darker. His mental strength is just average, but he was physically equipped. Nostrils flared. Me, I said. Lestat continued,”Liberte. A soul free. I want the drug.” His voice increased in vibe, but the fire licked in his throat and chest. Fingers squeezed the blankets in a vise. “Don’t tolerate it. Here, look away.”Jesse lung open a box. The doc reached inside, took out a bottle of what looked like green fluid. I turned off the invisible thing. Lestat bled from th lips, he must have bitten so hard. He stared at the needle going in. Jesse pressed him down. But he didn’t fight, just relaxed. Sweat flowed from his neck, one fell on Rowan’s hand. It rolled. “Don’t…lick it.” With a gasp, the patient’s pupils dilated till it reached the whites, the violets covering everything. I shuddered. Then he did not breathe anymore. “Didn’t see you,” she said flatly. Why? The witch uncurled his fingers and placed them under the blankets. Jesse cranked up the aircon. I soaked a cloth and wiped his face. If I am his angel I want to cure him. Why can’t I help? I had said. But no tears. “it is due to all this preternatural strength fading away. Every creature has its limits. He is not invincible. But... Lestat wants to go out. Should I give it to him?” she asked. Pointed into her toolbox. Needles of all sizes. The one was really thick. She placed the used one into a plastic bag. “Don’t! He can’t,” Jesse shouted. Philip held her. “He will die! It’s untested. You’d better make sure he is ok. Otherwise, I’ll I’ll…” then she ran out. “Sorry. I trust your decision.” Philip said. I was mad. Lestat never gives up on anybody, always helping them. Even if he’s sarcastic and stubborn, he wouldn’t say something like that. That’s why he made them, his kids. Even if he is so ill, he still wants to do meaningful things to help Santino. Daniel came in, only modern dressed vamp. He doesn’t look like one, more human. As they age, their whiteness increases. “Oh shit. Is he… ok?” “I will. When is the performance?” “Err the 16th. I think Boss modded the scripts. He can edit so our friend won’t overexert. Everyday is a different story.” I thought that was so cool. Rowan’s mind burnt with a deep intensity. Unlike other species, shapeshifters do not fear them, our auras are similar. Her killing gift or gift of Talent-telepathy is a trademark of the Mayfairs. Maybe we could exchange pointers one day. Surprised she looked up. She kissed Stat on the cheek and touched one lock of hair. He sighed. “What is your name again?” “Bianca. Why?” I answered. She smoothed the toolbox, dark hair falling about her face. Cleopetra, she has her hair! Rowan heard my thoughts and smiled faintly. “Thanks. You seem to be a beacon. Bratprince has been a wonderful ally. It pains me that I can’t relieve or assist him. I withhold my frightening power. It is uncontrollable.” Images of dead people. No No! I killed them. Why, how.... a tiny girl watching as plants shrivelled to blackness around, patients suddenly getting strokes and tumours, doctoring of reports. Stop. Then she talked of the Taltos, the people freed with their help. Quinn mentioned this. Ro showd me a photo. A tall guy with spider hands, big eyes, very long hair. He looked like my bro’s rpg bad guy. “Bianca,”she whispered with intensity “Tell Lestat he won’t need to bear the pain, on any account! The medicine is available. I will try my utmost to help. I will….”she choked at this point and tears ran. Iwill. Thank you. I should say that. Mona is so happy you want to be friends. Now, she’s more outgoing, mixes with other witches. They are surprised at her potential. |
